What Is Web Hosting?

First, a homepage need a place to live, a home on the Internet from where it can show its contents, text, pictures, films etc..

The homepage is to be connected to the world!

The home on the Internet is typically not your homepage’s own home, but a place, where one rents some space - a hotel at the large web or the net - a web hotel.

A web hotel means a physical space on a hard disc in a computer, a server or web server at your web hotel, where only you have access to log in and modify your homepage. This is called web hosting.

You can store whatever you like on your homepage’s web hotel.
It may be films, pictures of the family, funny tools etc.  yes only the imagination and the abilities are the limits. 

Web hosting works in that you pay an Internet service provider for the square meters your homepage is to have.

In other words you pay for the megabytes of net space you use.

A hardisc may have many homepages and an Internet service provider may have a lot of customers with a web hotel.

Internet service providers charge for your homepage’s share of the construction ground - the number of megabytes.

For a web hosting you also pay a little for the traffic you use.

Traffic is that amount of users - visitors - that come in on your homepage.

Traffic is also that amount of contents they use.

If they watch e.g. a lot of long films, traffics on your homepage will be high.

This costs the web hosters money, just as it costs to use the telephone or watch a TV (licence). 

If your homepage demands a large net space for the web hotel and thus insist on more ressources, prices will also reflect it.

Demands can be a need to be able to show films on the homepage, complex calculations, handle banking transaction and thus have high safety, drift online business etc. etc..

The more things your homepage has to be able to do, the more expensive it is.

The choice of a new web hotel or web hosting isn’t easy!
